Exploring the Noble Profession of Teaching

Are you thinking about building a career in teaching? If you wish to become a teacher, then this article is just for you. Teaching is an honorable profession and can be taken up by both men and women. A teaching job requires intelligence, patience and wisdom. Once you become a teacher, there is a plethora of job opportunities waiting for you.

The Profession
Teachers not only impart knowledge, they also play a significant role in grooming personalities. They provide education and also teach values to their students. To build a teaching career, one must possess a passion for exchanging ideas. For school teachers, teaching takes place among impressionable minds, while teaching at university level can include intelligent discussions and interactions with more mature minds.
Education in India can also differ from private to public sector. In India, jobs in teaching can vary depending on the subject being taught – English, Hindi, Mathematics, Social Studies or Science. In the age of internet and overflow of information, there is a high requirement for good teachers in classrooms as well as for virtual training. With the onset of virtual classroom teaching, there is an even greater demand for virtuous tutors.

Educational requirement
An educational course, like Bachelors in Education, will guarantee a teaching job in a respectable institution. The course fee for a B.Ed programme can start from Rs. 10,000 onwards. Mostly, jobs as teachers in government organizations are considered respectable. However, teaching in private schools offers a new experience and expose one to the newer methods of teaching. In order to become a lecturer in universities, you may need a Master’s degree or even a Ph.D. Most of the teaching courses include the following subjects like Education Theories, Principles and Best Practices of School Management, and Verbal Interaction in the curriculum. Some of the other subjects are:
·         Psychology of learning and development
·         Information Communication Technology and Instructional Systems
·         Live Presentations
·         Specific Subject education
Work Culture
Teaching can be a stress-free profession as the work hours are limited. A teacher may take about 5 to 7 sessions a day and still reach home in time to complete household chores. That is the reason why most of the teachers are women as they can manage work and family responsibilities.
Job Prospects
The employment opportunities for teachers are bright as there are numerous schools, colleges, tuition centers and other educational institutes all across the country. If one does not get a teaching job in the public sector, there are still plenty of options in private schools and colleges.
Remuneration

A career in teaching can be comfortable if one is teaching in the government-owned schools and colleges. A primary school teacher may start with a salary package of Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000. Government institutes may provide housing accommodation, commutation along with medical allowances. Private schools can offer more lucrative pays depending on your educational degrees, subject specialization and experience.
Teaching in colleges requires more dedication. The selection procedure for the position of a professor or lecturer is stringent and requires you to take several exams and appear for interviews. If you are appointed, then your average pay can be around Rs. 40,000 and more.
